Weight training for women – the shocking truth

But I’ll look like a man!

I don’t want to bulk up!

I want to look sexy, not masculine!

These are typical responses to the idea of weight training for women. This seems to be one of the most common concerns that women have when they start working out: the terror of looking like a bulked up man. That’s why you see so many women focusing exclusively on cardio, and why the gym’s weight section is still seen by many as the men’s domain.

I completely understand that women don’t want to bulk up. I’m sure many of you started working out because you want to look sexy. It’s probably fair to say that all women want to look lean, fit, toned and sexy. At one time or another, we’ve all been envious of women who have achieved that look. Who doesn’t want that beautiful body? Unfortunately, so many women devote themselves to cardio and, whilst they may be fit, don’t get that toned and sculpted look that they’re after. It must be so frustrating to work out religiously several times a week and yet not achieve that gorgeous sexy body! Luckily, I have the answer…

Weight training for women

Yes, you read that correctly. If you want to achieve that sexy sculpted body, you have to incorporate weight training into your regime. And no, you will not bulk up or look like a man.

Let’s look at some facts:

  • Women’s bodies do not produce enough testosterone to enable us to bulk up like men can.
  • If you want to get lean, you need to get strong. The strongest women are usually the leanest.
  • Lifting heavy weights won’t make you bulky. Sticking to light weights and high repetitions won’t get results.
  • Female bodybuilders have to eat, train and take specific supplements to look like they do. Unless you choose to, you simply won’t end up with that bulkier bodybuilder look.

Do not believe what you read in magazines! Weight training for women is highly beneficial and will help you reach your health and fitness goals faster. Read my next post to find out how weight training for women can help you look sexy – and more!
