Achieve New Year’s resolutions in 7 steps!

Don’t be among the 95% of people who fail to achieve their goals for the New Year. If you read my previous post then you will have some idea as to why there are such dismal statistics regarding these goals. However, you don’t have to fall into this trap.

Here’s how you can achieve New Year’s resolutions for 2016

  • Set your goals now. Do not procrastinate until 1 January 2016.
  • Don’t overwhelm yourself by setting a looooong list of goals. Setting a few core goals is a far better way to ensure that you will be successful.
  • If you want to achieve New Year’s resolutions then you need to ensure that you set realistic goals. Don’t let unrealistic expectations lead you down the path to disappointment.
  • Try to be as specific as you can when setting your goals. Sure, you might want to ‘lose weight’ or ‘exercise more’ but those are quite vague statements. Speak to a local personal trainer about setting specific parameters for your goals that are achievable and realistic.
  • Set goals that are sustainable. This should be a year long process that you tackle on a daily basis. You won’t achieve New Year’s resolutions if you run out of steam by February. Make sure that you can stick to your plan throughout the year.
  • Any worthwhile goal should be challenging. The key, if you want to achieve New Year’s resolutions, is to break down your end goal into smaller, more manageable steps.
  • Make yourself accountable. Want to lose weight or exercise more? Make regular appointments with a professional personal trainer. Want to eat more healthily? Consult a qualified nutritionist and check in regularly to see that you are staying on track.

Be in the 5% who achieve their goals! Remember, if you want to create new habits then you need to create new neural pathways in your brain. That means adopting a positive mindset, focusing on the present, and concentrating your thinking on your new habits and attitude.
